Our conviction

While some see public dialogue as a time-consuming constraint, CITIZING believes that a well-structured and managed public dialogue ensures the efficiency and acceptability of public projects.

A public dialogue is a discussion between project stockholders, aiming to foster an exchange of reasoned arguments in order to reach a collective judgement; it is different from both information sessions and public consultations.

Key success factors of a public dialogue

• Initiate the public dialogue process at the very start of project development;
• Pursue public dialogue at all steps of the project;
• Debate project choices so long as the options are still open;
• Ensure that the project manager is able to listen to suggestions, understand agreements and disagreements, and in fine take a decision.
